Dog Ear Mites and How to Treat Them

Here’s how to determine if your dog has ear mites, and if he does, how to treat them. Skim this FAQ, and if you still have questions, please write us at info@www.vet-organics.com.

Q:  How can I tell if my dog has ear mites?

A:  Dog ear mites are normally accompanied by red, itchy ears, a bad smell and/or dirty, gunky, or waxy discharge coming from the dog’s ear. The only way to determine with complete certainly whether these conditions are from ear mites is to take a sample of the dirty content of your dog’s ear and put it under a microscope. Regardless of the cause, a broad-spectrum treatment like EcoEars® can remove the problem whether it’s caused by ear mites or something else.

Q:   What are dog ear mites and how did my dog get them?

A:  Dog ear mites are tiny insects that live in the ear wall and suck blood. They can be picked up from other infected animals, so if you have other dogs or cats, check them for ear mite symptoms, too.  If a bad smell coming from your dog’s ear is what tipped you off to a problem—as it does for many pet owners—you probably noticed a stale yet ripe smell that is quite unpleasant. On further examination, you may have seen some of the other top 10 symptoms–including filthy ears, constant scratching of the ears, discharge and head shaking.

Q:  If the symptoms of dog ear mites are similar to other infections, how do I know if my dog has ear mites or something else?

A:  The short answer is you can’t know for sure unless you do lab testing. In fact, often when treatment is prescribed for ear mites, there is a simultaneous secondary infection which goes undiagnosed.

Q:  What are the ways to treat dog ear infections?

A:  There are several ways to treat an ear infection. As mentioned above, a vet can take a sample from your dog’s ear to determine if mites are causing the problem and which type of mite. Lab tests may be requested to verify each class of parasite to treat them. The vet may prescribe a drug to target a specific infection (such as gram positive bacteria or fungus or yeast). There are also home-made remedies that may work for your dog, and over-the-counter products that may contain either natural preparations or pesticides.

Q:  What does it cost to treat a dog ear infection?

A:  Conventional ear mite treatment for a dog at a vet’s office can easily run $150 or more, depending on which tests, medications, and procedures are performed. Typical charges may include examination, sedative, ear flush service, antibiotic injection, oral antibiotics, lab fees, vet-suggested over-the-counter ear cleaner solutions, painkillers, and/or hazardous waste disposal fees.

Q:  What less invasive and less-expensive options are there for treating my dog’s ear infection?

A:  There are natural ways to treat ear infections. These include variations of  alcohol or vinegar placed in the dog’s affected ear. If you would like to try to address the problem yourself, we share additional information and tips here on our website. Since dog ear infections can escalate into more serious problems and will cause discomfort for your pet until resolved, we highly advise to try our own, all-natural product, EcoEars®.

EcoEars acts as a natural, broad-spectrum disinfectant and treats the vast majority of infections, so you don’t have to know exactly what is causing your dog’s ear infection to cure it.

EcoEars costs less than $25 including delivery right to your door.  Your dog’s symptoms could be gone before you even get the lab results back!

EcoEars has successfully treated thousands of dogs whose owners reported ear mites, yeast infections, and a wide range of bacterial infections. In addition to killing parasites and bacteria, EcoEars lowers the pH in your dog’s ear slightly which makes the ear environment less susceptible to recurring infections.

When you use EcoEars Dog Ear Infection Formula, you’ll notice the symptoms begin to improve in 1-2 days and they should be gone in a few days. (We recommend to continue treatment for a full 10 days.)

It’s guaranteed.

EcoEars includes a 100% money-back guarantee. You will never see a money-back guarantee from your vet, and many dog owners complain that they require multiple vet visits for a single ear infection. If for any reason, EcoEars does not work for your dog, all Vet Organics products include a 100% money-back guarantee.
