You’ve heard of pizza delivery and perhaps even grocery delivery, but what about pet food delivery? Anderson’s Healthy Pet Depot, a Wheeling, Ohio-based business specializing in providing pet owners with premium nutrition options, is hoping to make just such a service into a hot commodity. The store has just unveiled online, phone, and e-mail ordering that enables customers to shop for goods and opt for a quick home delivery. The idea began when owners Mike Nikki Anderson had difficulty tracking down and purchasing healthy food for their black lab, who was diagnosed with allergies related to common ingredients in traditional dog food. Seeing that some pet owners had quite a bit of difficulty carrying and loading 30-50 pound bags of dog food, the Andersons decided to try offering delivery to the local area. All of the food offered by the Andersons is free of soy, corn, and wheat. There’s also grain-free food available for those pet owners looking to provide the most premium of premium diets. And the Andersons note that while premium food is generally more expensive at the counter, the health benefits and reduced portion sizes can often balance out the cost in the long run. Dog food delivery could provide a much needed service to those individuals who struggle with heavy food bags or don’t have access to a vehicle in which to haul them. The Anderson’s model might just be the way we buy dog food in the future.
