Pets Provide Big Benefits to Senior Homes

It makes sense, of course, to want to bring your beloved pets along with you as you start the next chapter of your life, but what is perhaps most surprising about the trend is the increasing willingness of senior communities to allow pets on-site. Across the nation, senior communities are making strides toward becoming more pet friendly. Some have even installed special fencing to make things a little bit safer for the pets who do come aboard. In fact, several senior communities have added pet care to resident service plans, handling dog walking, vet visits, or taking care of the pet when the resident’s health prevents them from doing so. It’s all about ensuring both the incoming senior and his or her pets will feel safe, comfortable, and happy in their new home. There are big benefits to seniors keeping their pets in their lives. For starters, caring for pets provides seniors with a way to stay independent, gives them an opportunity for exercise and activity, and makes it a bit easier to handle the transition from a private home to a community. Pets are also an excellent way for seniors to make new friends in the community, encouraging socialization that might not otherwise occur. Overall, allowing pets in senior communities seems to yield a massive benefit with very few drawbacks.
