Sometimes the dog picks you!” Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009) This incredibly moving film may have wrestled the prize away from Old Yeller as the most tear-inducing story to appear on screen. Richard Gere stars in the saga of how the bond fused between a dog and its owner can be one of the most powerful relationships in the world. Old Yeller (1957) Speaking of Old Yeller, the nearly-60-year-old film holds up incredibly well and still manages to jerk tears from watchers' eyes, even after repeated viewings. Set in the 18960's the storyline follows a yellow mongrel who's wander into the lives of a family in Texas. At first, the relationship between the oldest son and the dog is less than friendly. However, following a series of episodes in which the dog protects the family from snakes, bears, and all manner of threats, the boy comes to respect and love Old Yeller. Marley & Me (2008) Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston star in this engaging true story of the central role dogs play in our lives. After bringing home a puppy as a gift for his wife, newspaper writer John Grogan finds inspiration and frustration as the puppy grows from little Marley to 100 pounds and the world's most impulsive dog. The joys and heartaches of life with a dog in the house are nicely captured. 101 dalmations

101 Dalmatians (1996) This live-action treatment of the Disney animated classic is definitely a good time. Anita and Roger have a happy home with their Dalmatians Perdita and Pongo. Unfortunately, the dogs' puppies are kidnapped by the dastardly Cruella De Vil (played by Glenn Close) who has a terrible plan for the pups. All ninety-nine pups must be rescued before it’s too late. Homeward Bound (1993) No list of dog movies would be anywhere near complete without mentioning Homeward Bound. This remake of Disney’s 1963 The Incredible Journey follows the beloved adventures of bulldog Chance, golden retriever Shadow, and Himalayan cat Sassy. The odd trio embark on a long quest to rejoin their family. Not only is this a thoroughly engaging tale, but it is a technical marvel as the filmmakers manage to prompt great performances from the animal actors.
