What Causes Ear Infections in Cats?
Cat ear infection is not as common to happen as dog ear infection. However, when it does strike your kitty, there's usually a complicated reason behind it. Some of the causes of this unwelcome and unpleasant infection include an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria, wax buildup in the ear canal, allergies, tumor and/or thick hair that block the ear canal and damaged eardrum. Another reason behind ear infection is keeping bad hygiene, for instance, improper ear cleaning. External factors like foreign bodies and environmental irritants may be reasons why your kitten has an ear infection.

To help your kitten maintain good health, you need to recognize the signs of infection early on. The first sign of potential ear infection are black or yellowish discharge, redness of the ear canal, and discharge that reminds of coffee grounds. Other symptoms can come in forms of strong odor, and even as extreme as hearing loss and disorientation.
